Aura Sphere

An interactive, introspective web experience that asks 'If your mind were a physical space, what would it look like?' Features immersive 3D visuals, ambient interactions, and a contemplative UX designed as a creative development showcase.

Built with

  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Three.js
  • React Three Fiber
  • Tailwind CSS
  • GLSL Shaders

The problem

An open question — if your mind were a physical space, what would it look like? — has no interface convention to fall back on. There is no established pattern for a contemplative web experience, so every interaction decision has to be made from scratch against a goal that is felt rather than measured.

How it was built

Built as an interactive 3D web experience using Three.js and React Three Fiber with custom GLSL shaders, where the visual language itself carries the concept rather than sitting behind explanatory text.

Custom shaders rather than off-the-shelf materials, because the intended quality of the visuals — ambient, responsive, continuous — is not something standard lighting models produce.

The interaction design is deliberately unhurried. Ambient response and a contemplative pace are the point, which inverts the usual optimization target: nothing here is trying to reduce time on task.

Why this stack

  • React Three Fiber — Three.js expressed as React components, so scene graph and application state share one model.
  • GLSL shaders — per-pixel control that standard materials cannot provide.
